World War 1 - stories from home

BBC's World War One at Home project - Stories of what was happening in Mayo at the time, rather than stories from the frontlines or individual soldiers who went off to fight.

By Averil Staunton - re query to site

I have recently been contacted by the BBC who wish to record some stories from Ballinrobe.

They are looking for any ideas for stories and possible contributors.

'World War One' at Home concerns places across the UK and Ireland that have a connection to the First World War, so stories of what was happening at that time, rather than stories from the frontlines or individual soldiers who went off to fight are being sought.

To give you an idea of what might be of interested, you can listen to  previous stories here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01p33l4

We thank the BBC for contacting us and hope some of our community might be able to help out.

One story I heard myself was about bandages being created and rolled at the old Courthouse and another was about clogs being made down near Cranmore house owing to a shortage of shoes. Have you a story?
