Sanatorium, Ballinrobe

”Sanatorium” takes us on an observational journey through the halls of Creagh TB Hospital in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. It is a desolated place where many suffered and died from the tuberculous disease in the 1940/50’s. Originally set up by Dr. Noel Browne, it now stands as a monument of sickness and death as the earth slowly takes back the decaying ruins…

This is a three minute observational documentary, which I submitted as my final piece for my first year at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. There, I study Film and Documentary.

Editor Averil Staunton’s note:

An interesting clip which captures the essence of this sad monument to the scourge of TB in our country. Dr. Noel Browne actually lived and went to school in Ballinrobe. This was kindly shared by local Ironman Padraig Marrey
