07 Introduction to 'Women of Ballinrobe & Hinterland' exhibition

As part of our ongoing strategy to promote Ballinrobe and its hinterland’s heritage the Ballinrobe Historical Society have assembled the first phase of 34 of Our Women’s stories.

We are paying a tribute and say thank you to these women who contributed to their community in many different ways as; a mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbour, worked on small farms, were shopkeepers, teachers, nurses, volunteers, authors, committee members, minders, lawyers, writers, historical figures or, while being from the area, may have worked abroad. Some are historical figures, some still with us and some have passed away RIP.

They were/are women whose quiet, vital contribution have contributed to our heritage both here and abroad; with some have experienced the establishment of our state or endured World War l or 11 plus the tough early years of our Republic.

We would also like to thank sincerely those who contributed the stories of women who inspired, supported or contributed in some way to their lives.

A complete story about Our Women is available at www.historicalballinrobe.com or you can scan the QR code below. The stories will also be shared on the Irish Community Archive Network (iCan) of the National Museum of Ireland.

The 2nd phase of this project is now open and if you would like to pay a tribute or commemorate any women woman who you feel was an inspiration to you or contributed to society here in Ballinrobe contact ballinrobewomen@gmail.com to submit your story, query or suggestion.
