Course will run in Ballinrobe if sufficient interest is demonstrated by the Community

By Averil Staunton

In conjunction with the University of Limerick, Ballinrobe Historical Society’s Training Projects is running a certified, Local History Course during 2020 which has been designed by the University of Limerick as a practical support for such activity. It is for one-year and is a part-time evening course at certificate level in Ballinrobe.

Interest in local history has never been greater. The activities of numerous local history societies, groups, and private individuals working on their own or with others, all bear testimony to the continuing excitement that derives from researching and understanding the past in a particular locality.

The programme is designed to provide a supportive and stimulating context for reading and research in local history. It offers a qualification to individuals who are already active in their own areas; an opportunity to research their own places and for their own personal development. A possible path to further study may be available. Expressions of interest to Ballinrobe Historical Society at ballinrobehistorysite@gmail.com or 087 2655444.

Further information will be available in February for those who express an interest in this course; this course could also suit Secondary School students who want an alternative way to 3rd level studies.
