Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo Town Heritage Walk
Find some of the 'hidden gems' in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. Join us for a 'Heritage Trail' around the town.

Ballinrobe has been added to the international AllTrails site which is accessible by a worldwide audience.  The new technology allows you to download the information on the town to your smart phone for easy access during, or prior to your visit to Ballinrobe.

We say hello from the West of Ireland, and particularly from Ballinrobe, in the Lake District, with Lough Mask, Lough Corrib and Lough Carra (a marl lake) on our doorstep.

The culture of the area is unique with a wonderful tradition of music and dance and indeed Ballinrobe’s Musical Society was chosen by the creators of ‘River Dance’ for the premier of the ‘Pirate Queen’ in 2010.  This production went on to win the All Ireland AIMS Award 2010.

The flora and fauna in the area is unique and is accredited as being of national and international importance based on its ornithological (birds), botanical (flora similar to the Burren), and zoological interest (about 13 species of wild animals).

Ballinrobe is emerging, not from the ‘Celtic Tiger’ as he did not even ‘wag his tail’ in our direction, but a rebirth, with the realisation and appreciation that we have so much to offer the visitor to Ballinrobe; wonderful fishing on Loughs Mask, Carra and Corrib, and great golf at our superb 18 hole golf course at Cloonacastle, with a wealth of historic sites within the town.

You could have a great fun day at Mayo’s only Race Course, and stay at  a variety of accommodation from the 5* Ashford Castle, close by, to good quality, reasonably priced B & Bs like Kavanagh’s Friar’s House.  There is good food at the local Pubs and Restaurants – Flannery’s Bistro, Cornmarket, Carney’s Bar, Abbey Street, to mention just two.

Hope you get time to drop into Ballinrobe and experience this truly ‘hidden Ireland’.
