This clip was generously donated to the Historical Ballinrobe website by Joe Byrne.

The various activities included a race that started at Cornmarket and continued on around the town.

  • My dad came from Glebe St and we visited Ballinrobe in 1971. I remember the bicycle race – the winner had stripped his bike of any unnecessary weight. Amazing to see this after all these years!

  • Robby Fox (Robert Fox) is the boy who came second in the race (2.10). He was 14 years of age at the time. He says that the guy who won in the blue shirt was named Paddy Mc Taigh.

    Finding this clip has brought so much joy as his family moved to Limerick a month after this race. Thank you for uploading this clip!
